The name comes from a poem by Victor Hugo about two horsemen riding through the forest at night: by my side, Hermann seemed to me like a shadow. Etat Libre d'Orange wonders who walks beside you in the darkest forest. Everyone has a shadow, an invisible friend, a conscience or an alter ego. That shadow can have a name, like Hermann, or it can be your perfume: a companion you can argue with and never lose. The perfumer is Quentin Bisch.

To us Hermann is one of the house's most original scents. The geosmin truly smells of earth after a rain shower, the incense and rose make the whole mysterious. We find it beautiful in autumn, on a walk or a quiet evening. It is cool and yet intimate. Mysterious and poetic.
