Inspiration
With The Elixir Collector, Alexandre.J rewrote its best-loved fragrances. Six classics from The Collector were given a second chapter, true to their soul but with a new accent, and White Night was composed especially for this line as the house's new signature. This Signature Discovery brings all seven together in 3 ml sample vials, inside an orange case decorated with gold-foiled flowers, irises and stars. The Signature of Sample Set Elixir
What makes this set fascinating is hearing what one new accent does to a familiar fragrance. In Black Muscs II, black cherry gives the opening a modern, elegant tone, while rose and musk stay at the heart as you know them. Morning Muscs II opens on juicy, sun-drenched peach and stays soft and sensual. Rose Oud II gains raspberry, lending the classic rose and oud pairing a fresh, slightly tangy brightness. Rose Alba II lets go of sweet fruit and turns to leather: a dark, carnal rose with real character. In Golden Oud II passion fruit sets the tone before amber oud and patchouli unfold a golden, woody richness. Iris Violet II is playful, with exotic fruits and creamy vanilla. White Night is the lightest of the seven: ginger and bergamot, a milky fig accord and a base of white woods and musk that stays close to the skin.

We happily recommend this set to anyone who doesn't yet know Alexandre.J well, or who is torn between a few Elixir scents. Choosing between seven fragrances in a full bottle is hard, and with 3 ml each you can actually wear every one for a few days instead of just sniffing a blotter. Our own favourites differ from colleague to colleague. Rose Alba II surprises many people because the rose is so dark and leathery, while White Night is the restrained, fresh exception that works all year round. If you know the original Collector scents, there is extra pleasure in it: side by side you notice exactly where the house has made its changes. The case is beautiful enough to work as a gift straight away. For the price, we think it is one of the most enjoyable ways to step into the world of Alexandre.J.
