Amouage - OPUS XIII SILVER OUD

A protruding depth of Patchouli and smoky Cypriol confuses the senses. Instead of a top note, a wide variety of woods appear, foreboding a deep evolution. An exquisitely rich Oud Assam dances in unison with a leathery Madagascar Vanilla, while Ambrarome, Birch, Castoreum and Guaiac Wood leave dark sillage imprints on the skin, blending in an endless finale.

Inspired by the notions of Confusion, Passion and Destruction expressed in Stendhal’s “The Red and The Black”, Silver Oud is a manifestation of the tension between idealism and realism, the contradiction between thinking and feeling, and the power of mimetic desire. Silver Oud is doubling in size compared to the previous flacon and now permanently offered in 100ml. The other historic Opuses will remain available for sale through the Amouage Archive, on Amouage.com and selected Amouage boutiques (while supplies last); a different framework that will leave ample space for The Library Collection to grow anew, attuned to a cohesive curatorial approach.

THE PERFUMER CÉCILE ZAROKIAN
An ISIPCA alumnus, Cécile Zarokian trod her own path by becoming at 27 the youngest independent woman perfumer of our age. Her humility, curiosity and panartistic vision of her craft results in fragrances often a certain grandiloquence and Armenian homeliness.

THE LIBRARY COLLECTION
Amouage reshapes The Library Collection around four iconic Opuses and a new creation - Opus XIV Royal Tobacco - in a new curatorial approach

Inspired by the omniscient allure of a library and mankind’s insatiable quest for knowledge, The Library Collection is a celebration of integrity, creativity, and virtuosity. A place where the soul leaves an imprint on the art of living, this collection of opuses proposes inventive perfumery, unthought-of accords, and always bold and unexpected scents to treasure.

Staying true to its original ethos, The Library Collection will now orbit around five fragrances: two iconic Opuses, Opus V and Opus VII, along with Rose Incense and Silver Oud, renamed Opus XII and Opus XIII respectively, and a new creation, Opus XIV Royal Tobacco, a fragrant travel along the Tropic of Cancer from Oman to Cuba, connecting Royal Frankincense to Regal Tobacco.

In the future, they will be joined by new Opuses as Renaud Salmon’s own olfactory explorations unfold and a raw material or accord has been pushed to its expressive paroxysm.

Testament to the roots of Amouage and the renewed focus on Omani heritage and excellence, the four existing Eaux de Parfum are now housed in Amouage’s iconic “Khanjar”-inspired bottle, a unique Omani symbol of the highest class and divine beauty. Their organic ceramic finish, in earthy Truffle and Cashmere colours, is a true reflection of the craft and authenticity of the Sultanate. Original artworks created by Louise Mertens adorn the new packaging and are an integral part of a series of analog art visuals and movies shot by Valentin Abad.

Amouage – Royal Gifts from the King of Oman
Since ancient times, the fabled land of Oman has been famous for its unique exotic incense and perfumes. But the trade in this precious product, as well as the entire perfume industry, was marked by highs and lows and, at one stage, was almost lost to the sands of time. Luckily this came to an end in 1983 as the Omani royal family, under His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, commissioned his Highness Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud al bu Said, also a member of the royal family, to revive the old Arabic culture of perfumery. This event marked the birth of the brand Amouage as a luxurious, internationally oriented fragrance house with oriental roots. To realize his vision Sayyid Hamand spared neither cost nor effort and the first fragrance of the house was the classic "Gold". The fragrance was introduced under the applause of the world press and the perfume became an instant success.

The name Amouage has been carefully selected. Although it sounds French, it is a purely conceptual term consisting, first, from the Arabic term "Amwaj", which means wave, and on the other from the French word for love, "amour". So Amouage means in a broader sense "the waves of emotions." The unique name reflects the spirit of the fragrances: their grace, their luster and their feeling - a very special gift for all those you love!
