Inspiration
Imperial Peacock borrows its silhouette from the peacock, one of the most cherished motifs of Art Nouveau. To Alexandre.J, the bird stands for sovereign beauty: an aura that is flamboyant and unapologetic, dazzling yet secretive. The scent plays on contrast, between luminous gourmandise and mysterious refinement. In the full-size bottle the house expresses this through hand-blown glass with fine gold engraving, an architectural jewel in a case of leather and silk. This 10 ml carries the same composition in a slim travel spray dressed in the green and gold of the Art Nouveau Collection, small enough for a bag or pocket.

The Signature of Imperial Peacock
It opens on velvety almond meeting the green, slightly tart edge of rhubarb. That tartness keeps the sweetness sharp and stops the opening from turning heavy. Heliotrope adds a powdery, almost almond-like softness, so the two reinforce each other. Tonka bean, which the house describes as roasted like coffee beans, brings warmth and a tactile, enveloping texture. In the heart, cinnamon and black vanilla meet a sweet musk: spicy, dark and creamy at once. The balsamic base lets the scent linger long and warm on the skin. The result is a gourmand built on light and shadow, rich yet with an elegant line.

We have known Imperial Peacock for a while in the large bottle with the golden peacock, and it remains one of the Alexandre.J scents we love talking about in the shop. What strikes us every time is the rhubarb. Without that fresh, slightly sour touch, almond with vanilla and cinnamon could easily smell like a pastry counter. Instead there is air in the composition, and it feels more like a stylish dessert in a dark interior than something simply sweet. After an hour on skin it becomes softer and more powdery, with heliotrope and musk in front, and at the end a warm balsamic glow remains that you catch all evening. We find it at its best in autumn and winter, and it wears beautifully on men and women alike. For us this 10 ml is the ideal way to find out whether this outspoken peacock suits you before committing to the full bottle. And if you already own it, this is the one to take travelling.
