1888 refers to the year in which the historic Bologna perfume house Casamorati was founded, a house Xerjoff brought back to life. The scent pays homage to Tuscany's centuries-old tradition of leather tanning: a slow, deliberate process that, like perfumery itself, uses the finest natural materials to create something lasting. For us, 1888 is a scent with a quiet confidence of its own: warm, spicy and understated. On the skin the scent opens with green pepper and cloves, bright and inviting during the first half hour. Then ylang-ylang takes over and the composition reveals its true character. After three to four hours it settles into amber and Mysore sandalwood, a soft, personal finish that lingers well into the day on skin and clothing. We like to wear it best in autumn and winter, on cool evenings and at dinner. A scent for those who love classic, warm woody scents with Italian allure.
