Escentric 02

Inspiration
Escentric 02 explores the many faces of perfume's most prized aroma-molecule, cloaking its wearer in romance and enigma. At its centre is nature-identical Ambroxan, crystallographically identical to the ambrox derived from ambergris, the mysterious substance that only gains its fine scent after long maturation at sea. Ambroxan was synthesised from plant materials by Firmenich chemists in 1950. Geza Schoen added a gin and tonic accord, a hint of Almdudler and, as the house puts it, "that specific smell you get when you unwrap a new Apple laptop".

The Signature of Escentric 02
Ambroxan is dosed here at 13.5%, the maximum that dissolves in a fragrance compound before the molecule starts to crystallise; most amber fragrances contain only one or two per cent. That gives Escentric 02 its mineral, almost silvery smoothness. The opening sparkles with juniper, citrus and the herbal freshness of Almdudler. In the heart, ginger, clary sage and pink pepper add rhythm while hedione and orris soften the whole. In the base, musk, vetiver and tonka merge with the Ambroxan into what Geza Schoen calls "super long-lasting freshness into the drydown, with a subtle sensuality".
