Attar

Inspiration
Andy Tauer filled this pentagonal flacon with pure perfume oil, free of alcohol and free of filler oil. What it holds is dark and faintly animalic. Creamy Mysore sandalwood steadies an Arabian wood accord, Egyptian jasmine tints it floral, and Javanese vetiver with Spanish black cistus brings in the earth. An attar only truly opens on warm skin.

The Signature of Attar
One drop of jasmine, and you feel the oil settle into the skin. Sandalwood and woods slip in beneath it. What remains is vetiver with cistus: low, leathery, close to the body.

Wearing an attar is different from spraying, and you notice it immediately here. You dab a drop on the wrist, wait a moment, and the jasmine appears unhurried, warm rather than fresh. After an hour the sandalwood turns creamy and a soft, almost leathery sheen develops. Anyone expecting it to fill the room will be surprised: this stays yours, a few centimetres away. By evening you mostly smell vetiver and cistus, dry and earthy. We reach for it on cold days, under a wool jumper, or as a final layer after a shower. For those who like quiet in a perfume and enjoy carrying a 5 ml bottle in their bag.
