Sunset Hour Dark Peach by Goldfield & Banks Australia is a darker and more enveloping interpretation of the original Sunset Hour. Where Sunset Hour captures the light of the Australian sunset, Dark Peach focuses on the moment when daylight gives way to evening and the colours of the horizon become deeper.
The fragrance is designed as a transition from light to darkness, from the final golden glow into the warm atmosphere of night. Goldfield & Banks describes Sunset Hour Dark Peach as sultry and generous, an invitation to let go and surrender to the pleasure of the night.
The opening begins with Jamaican rum, pink berries and Italian mandarin. Rum immediately creates warmth, richness and a subtly sweet impression. In perfumery, rum has a remarkable ability to give a fragrance a sense of depth and texture, almost as though the composition becomes more fluid and tactile.
Pink berries provide a lively contrast. Their fruity and lightly spicy character creates tension in the opening and prevents the rum from becoming too dense. Italian mandarin adds luminous citrus freshness, keeping the first impression bright despite the warmth.
This contrast is central to Dark Peach. The fragrance does not begin dark in the traditional sense of a heavy woody perfume. Instead, the darker character develops gradually as the bright fruity opening becomes surrounded by warmer, spicier and ambery materials.
At the heart, organic ginger from Madagascar brings a fresh, spicy and aromatic quality. Ginger creates lively tension and gives the composition movement. Combined with rum, it develops a warmer character, while the citrus clarity of mandarin remains present.
Benzoin introduces a softer balsamic warmth. This resinous material is known for its sweet, vanilla like and gently balsamic character and creates a natural connection between the spicy heart and the warm base.
Upcycled ylang adds a floral dimension. Ylang ylang is known for its rich, creamy and exotic floral character. Here it is not presented as a traditional floral note, but as part of a much warmer and more enveloping composition.
The fragrance then becomes distinctly warmer. Vanilla gives the base a soft, creamy and rounded sweetness. Rather than functioning simply as a gourmand note, vanilla connects the spicy, fruity and ambery facets of the composition.
Woody ambers provide depth and modern woody warmth. In contemporary perfumery, amber woods are known for their powerful and diffusive character and can create a warm, dry and long lasting presence.
Tonka bean completes the composition with a soft combination of sweetness, warmth and spice. Tonka has a recognisable creamy and subtly almond like character, with facets that can recall vanilla and dried hay. It gives the base a smooth and velvety finish.
The official fragrance pyramid from Goldfield & Banks is carefully structured around this contrast between fruity brightness and warm depth. The fragrance opens with rum, pink berries and mandarin, moves into ginger, benzoin and ylang, and settles into vanilla, woody ambers and tonka bean.
The name Dark Peach also reflects the relationship with the original Sunset Hour. Goldfield & Banks lists Australian Desert Peach among the botanicals of this creation. The Desert Peach, also known as quandong, is an Australian fruit connected to the natural landscape and the original concept behind Sunset Hour.
Dark Peach does not simply repeat that idea. Instead, it changes the lighting. The original Sunset Hour is bright, sunny and fruity, while Dark Peach explores the same inspiration as evening approaches.
This gives Sunset Hour Dark Peach a distinct place within the Goldfield & Banks universe. The house is known for connecting the Australian landscape with sophisticated international perfumery. The fragrance therefore feels less like a generic fruity composition and more like an interpretation of a specific moment, the warmth of an Australian evening as the light slowly disappears.
The use of rum and woody ambers makes the fragrance richer and warmer than the original Sunset Hour. Ginger adds movement, benzoin and vanilla bring softness, and tonka bean gives the base a velvety finish.
What is particularly interesting is that Dark Peach is not simply sweet. The fruity elements are continually contrasted with spice, citrus, woods and amber. This creates a fragrance that feels rich without becoming heavy and gourmand in warmth without becoming a conventional dessert fragrance.
Sunset Hour Dark Peach is officially an Eau de Parfum with a 25 percent concentration.
The perfumer behind this new interpretation is Clément Marx. The original Sunset Hour was created by Honorine Blanc, making Dark Peach a distinctly new artistic interpretation of the same fragrance universe.

Jamaican rum gives the opening warmth, depth and a rich, subtly sweet character. It immediately creates a more mature evening atmosphere.
Pink berries bring fruity and lightly spicy brightness. They add energy to the opening and create contrast with the warmth of rum.
Italian mandarin provides sparkling citrus freshness. It keeps the opening luminous and lively despite the warmth of the rum.
Organic ginger from Madagascar brings fresh, spicy and aromatic warmth. It gives the composition movement and keeps the heart vibrant.
Benzoin adds a soft, balsamic and sweet warmth. It creates a natural bridge between the spicy heart and the warm base.
Upcycled ylang introduces rich, exotic floral character. Its floral quality adds softness and texture without overpowering the fruity and ambery character.
Vanilla gives the base creaminess, warmth and soft sweetness. It connects the different facets of the composition and creates a rounded finish.
Woody ambers provide warm, modern woody depth and reinforce the presence and persistence of the base.
Tonka bean brings soft, warm and subtly creamy sweetness, with a character that complements vanilla and amber beautifully.
What makes Sunset Hour Dark Peach so special?
The distinctive character of Sunset Hour Dark Peach lies in the way Goldfield & Banks does not simply make Sunset Hour darker. The house reinterprets the same inspiration through a different time of day.
The original Sunset Hour is about the golden light of sunset. Dark Peach moves into the transition between evening and night, creating a warmer, richer and more enveloping composition.
The combination of Jamaican rum, pink berries and mandarin gives the opening a striking luminous contrast. Ginger, benzoin and ylang then create a spicy, balsamic and floral transition.
In the base, the character changes distinctly. Vanilla, woody ambers and tonka bean create a warm and velvety finish that gives greater depth to the fruity opening.
The presence of Australian Desert Peach as part of the botanical inspiration also connects the fragrance closely to the identity of Goldfield & Banks. The house uses the Australian landscape not simply as a setting for its fragrances, but as an important part of its creative concept.
For us, the contrast is particularly interesting. Sunset Hour Dark Peach combines fruity brightness with rum, spices, amber woods and vanilla. This gives the fragrance richness and warmth without making it simply sweet.
What does the ParfuMaria team think of this fragrance?
We find Sunset Hour Dark Peach a beautiful development within the Sunset Hour universe. The fragrance still carries something sunny and fruity, but the atmosphere has clearly changed.
The rum immediately gives the opening more warmth and depth than one might expect from a classic fruity fragrance. Mandarin keeps the composition luminous, while pink berries introduce spicy tension.
In the heart, we particularly enjoy the combination of ginger and benzoin. Ginger brings energy, while benzoin makes the composition softer and warmer. Ylang adds subtle floral roundness.
The base is where Dark Peach develops its own identity for us. Vanilla, woody ambers and tonka bean create a rich, warm and velvety presence.
We see this as a fragrance for someone who enjoys the fruity side of Goldfield & Banks but would like a darker, warmer and more evening focused interpretation. Dark Peach feels like the transition from a golden sunset into a warm Australian night.
