Shangri La

Inspiration
In his 1933 novel Lost Horizon, James Hilton describes a hidden Himalayan valley where nobody grows old: Shangri La. Hiram Green translated that paradise into a chypre, the classic structure of citrus and oakmoss. Production stopped in 2018; now it has returned in a renewed version.

Citrus and soft fruit, think peach and plum, open juicy and sunny. A floral heart keeps everything light and elegant. Oakmoss and woods give the typical mossy-green chypre finish.

Chypres like the ones our mothers wore are hardly made anymore, which is why we were so glad to see Shangri La return. The fruit is ripe yet never sticky, and the moss gives it that stylish, slightly stern backbone. On skin it feels like a silk scarf. We like it best by day, for a lunch or a museum visit, all year round.
