Prince Igor Svyatoslavich is one of the most celebrated figures in Russian history. His courageous campaign against the Polovtsian tribes in the twelfth century became immortalised in The Tale of Igor's Campaign, one of Eastern Europe's oldest and most influential literary masterpieces. Centuries later, his story inspired Alexander Borodin's famous opera Prince Igor, a work celebrating courage, honour, loyalty and sacrifice.
