Inspiration
Black Oud belongs to The Oud Collection, the line in which Lootah pays tribute to Emirati heritage and to the mystique of oud. The house describes the fragrance as a luxurious composition of exotic spices and incense-like warmth, woven through with blackcurrant and raspberry.
The black bottle, fading to gold at its base beneath a golden domed cap, tells the same story: something nocturnal and refined, with a glow that only appears when the light catches it.
Fragrance Family
Spicy and woody-ambery, with a dark fruity accent. Part of Lootah's Oud Collection.
The Olfactive Composition
Top notes: Turkish Rose, Cinnamon, Blackcurrant Buds, Raspberry, Cistus Spain
Heart notes: Clove, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Geranium
Base notes: Ambroxan, Musk, Benzoin, Vanilla
The Signature of Black Oud
The opening is strikingly fruity for a fragrance with this name. Raspberry and blackcurrant buds bring a juicy, slightly tart brightness, while cinnamon immediately sets warmth against it. Turkish rose links the two: dark, velvety and a touch jammy, as roses so often are in oriental perfumery.
Spanish cistus introduces something resinous and leathery early on, and in the heart clove takes over from the cinnamon. Patchouli and sandalwood give the composition its backbone: earthy, creamy and woody. Geranium keeps everything fresh and stops the spices from becoming heavy.
In the base, benzoin and vanilla melt into a balsamic, gently sweet warmth, while ambroxan and musk add radiance and a skin-like, mineral amber glow. It is this interplay of dark fruit, spice and balsam that gives Black Oud its character.
What our ParfuMaria team thinks of this fragrance
What appeals to us in Black Oud is the contrast between its dark name and its lively, fruity opening. This is not a heavy, smoky oud, but a layered fragrance in which rose, cinnamon and red fruits slowly dissolve into balsam and wood.
A fragrance for the cooler months and for the evening, for those who love spiced roses and a warm, soft base.
