Inspiration
With Black Forest, Al Ambra set out to create a scent that never pushes itself forward, yet keeps you quiet company all day. The house calls it minimal and skin-like: a modern, clean composition for daily life. Where a classic citrus cologne bursts open and fades fast, Black Forest deliberately takes a softer route, lighter in tone and finishing on musk and wood rather than sharp freshness. Al Ambra develops its perfumes with the Dubai climate in mind, and this extrait shows that clearly: it was made for warm weather and for rooms where people stand close together. The deep blue bottle with its black label comes in a box of the same cobalt shade.

The Signature of Black Forest
Three notes are all Black Forest needs. Grapefruit opens with a juicy, faintly bitter brightness, the kind of freshness that recalls the peel rather than sweet juice. Ambroxan soon takes over. Originally developed as a substitute for ambergris, it smells clean, mineral and a touch salty. It also has the curious ability to merge with the skin, so after fifteen minutes the scent feels less like perfume and more like a polished version of yourself. The woody base lays a dry, calm floor beneath it all. There is hardly any sweetness, and that is exactly what makes it so effortless.

To us, Black Forest proves that a simple formula need not be dull at all. The first time we smelled it on a paper strip, we briefly thought little was happening. On skin that impression turned around: the grapefruit holds on longer than expected, and the ambroxan leaves a warm, clean glow that comes out slightly differently on every wearer. Colleagues who normally reach for heavy oriental scents were surprisingly happy to wear it to the office. Projection is modest, so anyone after a cloud of fragrance should look elsewhere. But if you want something to spray in the morning and then forget about for the rest of the day, this is a genuinely pleasant choice, at its best in spring and summer. A tip from our own experience: mist a little onto your clothes too, since that is where the ambroxan lingers longest.
