Byzantine Amber

Inspiration
Byzantine Amber is the third fragrance, after Libertine Neroli and Unspoken Musk, in the series Francesca Bianchi dedicates to the great raw materials of perfumery. The gleaming gold mosaics of Byzantium, such as those of Ravenna, with their tesserae worn by time, inspired this theatrical, luminous splendour with a dark side. Gustave Moreau's Salome captures the same atmosphere in paint.

The Signature of Byzantine Amber
Cinnamon and the pulpy, spicy geranium contrast with the dry minerality of ambergris and styrax. The backbone is a classic amber accord, darkened by leathery, smoky and animalic facets that give the composition intensity and character.

For us, Byzantine Amber is a scent with a quiet confidence of its own: dramatic, hypnotic and understated. On the skin the scent opens with bergamot and cinnamon, bright and inviting during the first half hour. Then geranium takes over and the composition reveals its true character. After three to four hours it settles into benzoin and labdanum, a soft, personal finish that lingers well into the day on skin and clothing. We like to wear it best in autumn and winter, in the evening and at dinner. A scent for lovers of dark, theatrical amber scents.
