Inspiration
Since 2009, Van Cleef & Arpels has treated raw materials in the Collection Extraordinaire the way the house treats gemstones: with patience and respect. For Ambre Impérial it chose amber, already warm and faintly leathery by nature, and set it among cinnamon and other spices.

The Signature of Ambre Impérial
Cinnamon warms the skin, rather like a scarf fresh off the radiator. Benzoin and vanilla wrap a soft layer around it, so the amber stays round and never turns sharp.

Anyone looking for amber without heaviness often ends up here with us. The cinnamon is clearly there in the first minutes, yet it behaves politely. Then the vanilla takes the wheel and the scent turns velvety. On a wool coat it lingers for days; on skin it stays close all evening. In the boutique we see customers first take it for an evening scent, then wear it on a grey November morning as well. We like it best when it is cold outside and candles are lit indoors.
