A Midsummer Dream

Inspiration
Roja Dove took his cue from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, the play in which the forest comes alive at night. Oakmoss, patchouli and vetiver form the forest floor; grapefruit, cardamom and pink pepper give the playful spirit of the story. Titania, Queen of the Fairies, slept on a bed of musk and rose according to Shakespeare, and both are in this composition.

The Signature of A Midsummer Dream
A Midsummer Dream is built as a chypre, the classic structure of citrus above moss and wood, yet looser and lighter in tone. Aldehydes make the citrus sparkle, cyclamen and magnolia keep the heart translucent. In the base, carrot seed brings a powdery, almost earthy balsam that blurs the line between dream and reality. Rhubarb and elemi keep the mossy depth green and lively.

We like to call this Roja's friendliest chypre. The opening of grapefruit and pepper feels like a summer morning after rain, fresh and a touch bitter. After an hour the moss draws the scent onto the skin and it turns greener, almost shady, with the rose softly glowing through. In the late hours a powdery, slightly balsamic moss remains. We like to wear it in late spring and summer, outdoors, in daylight. A scent for those who admire chypres but prefer to wear them lighter.
