The Story of the Brand More than twenty years ago, at the edge of the Arabian kingdom, Pierre Montale discovered his destiny. A curious traveller and aesthete, he was initiated into the rarest olfactory treasures of the Orient, and oud became his revelation. In 2003 he returned to Paris, carrying with him oud and a thousand other fragrant wonders. From this the House of Montale was born, a Parisian perfumery with a distinctly oriental signature. Pierre Montale says of oud: “Oud is a material that slowly reveals itself, then imposes its presence with persistence.”
The Signature of the House Montale describes its fragrances as an invitation to escape, an olfactory journey without borders nourished by the riches of the Orient and beyond. The house works with noble raw materials, concentrated to unveil their full intensity. Oud from Cambodia, India and Laos takes centre stage, alongside rose from France, Bulgaria, Turkey, India and Saudi Arabia, white flowers such as jasmine, tuberose, orange blossom and peony, and leather, musk and amber. The aluminium bottle is inspired by the aluminium vats in which the master perfumers of Grasse let their concentrates rest: it protects the perfume from light and gives it time to mature.

The brand guarantees that each bottle is professionally filled to exactly 100 ml, using calibrated equipment under strict quality control. Because the bottle is light and made of aluminium, it may feel as if it weighs less or is not fully filled, and when shaken it may sound as if it contains less perfume. This is a characteristic of Montale. Opening a bottle and pouring or weighing the perfume is not permitted: once a bottle is opened, alcohol evaporates, essential components are lost and the bottle no longer closes properly.
