Miller Harris - Craft & Glamour
A collaboration with The Royal Opera House, exploring the contrasts of old and new, hard work and artistry.
In a unique collaboration, London luxury perfume house Miller Harris have worked with The Royal Opera House to create Craft & Glamour, a new Eau de Parfum inspired by the contrast and synchronicity between the highly skilled artisans who work behind the scenes; costumers, designers, musicians, wig makers, painters and scene builders; and the the opulence of the production; the velvet seats, gilded furniture, elaborate plaster mouldings and decadent private boxes.
Craft & Glamour explores many contrasts; old and new, hard work and artistry, history and the future. Produced by perfumer Mylène Alran, Craft & Glamour is announced by fresh bergamot, pink berries, a glamourous rose and fruity plum. Exotic patchouli sits among lacquered woods, cashmere and sandalwood at the heart and settles onto plush Tonka bean, Musk and cistuseo at the base.
Miller Harris had unprecedented access behind the scenes, spending time listening to the orchestra tune up or climbing through the dusty Gods. The distant sound of a lone cellist practising echoed along the warren-like corridors, costume makers wheeled racks of exquisite gowns, ready for the next performance. In 2018, The Royal Opera House unveiled its “Open Up” project; modernising large parts of The House and creating a space which is relevant and exciting within its environment. The regal blue flocked packaging is debossed with subtle drawings taken from the new building designs, shared by the Architects of the new build, Stanton Williams, and abstracted to reflect both classicism and modernity
